Captain John Sharp's Corner - Chesapeake Bay Fishing News & Reports

Winter

Posted on January 31, 2010 by Captain John Sharp

It has been nice to have a little break in January, but now it is time to get back to business. The fishing season is only 10 weeks away! For my part, this is the time to take care of maintainance items with both the boat and fishing equipment. It is also a great time to go to fishing expos and see what is new. This year, in fact, Miss Molly Fishing Charters LLC will once again have a booth at the MSSA Expo to be held in Edgewater, Md., on February 27. Stop by and say hello if you are attending.
The spring calendar is starting to fill up, so give me a call if you would like to book a charter. You can see available dates on the calendar portion of this website. One note with that calendar - Many of the dates that are already booked are for morning charters only. The website does not show the pm trips (which leave the dock at 3 and come back at 8). So, if you are looking at a Saturday or Sunday during the trophy season and the calendar says it is booked, give me a call anyhow. There is the possibility that we can set something up in the afternoon and evening.

End of the year

Posted on December 19, 2009 by Captain John Sharp

Without a doubt, the fall fishing was as good as has been in years. The live lining held up through September and we had great fun catching rock and bluefish with the light tackle.
As soon as the weather cooled off some in October, however, the focus was once again on catching rock via trolling. There was an abundance of school size fish (18"- 30") and the action was usually pretty good.
However, the best seemed to be saved for last this year. Since the early part of November, the large migratory rock were back. We had some great trips and put some beautiful fish in the boat. In fact, on one trip that my son, David, was running, a 48", 37 lb rock was caught.
Now the season is over. Once again, I can only look back over the last 9 months and think of the great times that were had by all. I am already looking forward to next April when we start all over again!
As always, give me a call if you would like to book a trip (What a great Christmas gift to give someone). The Miss Molly family and I hope that everyone enjoys a very safe and happy holiday season.
